WYD Pilgrimage heads out in 10 days time.

Tickets have arrived, bags are almost packed and the excitement is rising!

Our pilgrimage group consists of 25 pilgrims from across the diocese, 3 pilgrims joining us from Wilcannia Forbes Diocese. Together we embark on the trip of a lifetime, 23 days of pilgrimage. Across northern Spain, Days in the Diocese in the diocese of Salamanca, the World Youth Day week in Madrid and then on the way home a short stay in Northern Ireland to process our experiences before returning home.

A pilgrimage in one sense is a very selfish act, it is all about our own stories our own journey, however, on the other hand a pilgrim travel for everyone they have ever met and everyone whom they will meet on in the future. It is a journey to discover and embrace the kingdom of God on earth. These pilgrims have been called to be witnesses of love and are compelled to share that love.

The theme for this years World Youth Day 2011 is “Planted and built up in Jesus Christ, firm in the faith” cf Col 2:7. As pilgrims this is our goal, this is why we go on pilgrimage.

Please join us on our journey, as we post our stories and photos. Join us so that from the mountains to the plains across Bathurst Diocese we are gathered in Christ.

Ancient Pilgrim Prayer By Philo (first century AD)
Lord God,
We travel in weakness, hoping to find strength,
We travel with sickness, hoping to find health.
We journey in confusion, seeking peace,
We journey in doubt, seeking true faith.
We come carrying despair, looking for hope,
We come unready.
We come alone.
We come together.
Seeking to find Jesus, your living Word.
Amen.
